History of Whiskey

You can't really understand what a bourbon or whiskey barrel does for a beer if you don't know anything about whiskey.  Spend an evening watching these videos and you'll find yourself more understanding of what was going on in our oak barrels before beer went into them.

These are great. Do you use old Whiskey barrels for any of your Sours?

we primarily use used wine barrels for our sour ales, but we do use some whiskey barrels for our Tart of Darkness. The whiskey barrels that we use for ToD have already been used by one of our strong ales however, so most of the bourbon character has been sucked out of them already. Barrels are a bit like tea bags, you can use them multiple times, but you'll get less flavor on every use.

cheers! I packed a few of your bottles home with me to Minneapolis during my recent trip to San Diego. Can't wait to crack them open! I gotta get my hands on some of that Oude Tart though..one of my favorite styles!
